Arvada is a city that is located in the central region of the US state of Colorado. It is a part of the greater Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metropolitan area. The area was primarily settled by gold prospectors in the 1850’s. Many gold hunters stayed in Colorado rather than continuing on to California to search for their fortunes. The Colorado Territory was formed in 1861 and soon the Colorado Central Railroad linked Arvada with other major cities in the area. The town was finally incorporated in 1904. The city has continued to grow as a suburb of neighboring Denver.

Arvada has a humid continental climate, which means warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip well below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August.

Arvada is home to one major cultural center, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. It is home to the Arvada History Museum, several classrooms and conference centers, a few theaters, and several art galleries. It is open to the public and even offers art classes for all ages. It hosts regular musical and theatrical performances throughout the year.

There are two airports that service the Arvada area. Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is a smaller local airport that offers mostly domestic commercial service.
