Glendale is a city that is located in the southern portion of the state of California in Los Angeles County. It is the seventeenth largest city in the state and the third largest in the county. In 1860 Teodoro Verdugo built the first permanent structure in Glendale, a ranch house. The area began as an agricultural community with many farms and ranches. In 1884 the residents gathered together and decided to name their community "Glendale". The city was incorporated in 1906 and it contined to grow.

Glendale is located at the joining of two of southern California's largest valleys, the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys. Its location gives it a Mediterranean climate, which means warm summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures generally stay above 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Glendale is home to some famous restaurant chains. Bob's Big Boy, a chain of hamburger restaurants, was founded in Glendale in 1936. Baskin-Robbins, the popular ice cream chain, was founded in the city nine years later in 1945. The city really began to grow after the completion of the Glendale and Ventura Highways, which brought more and more people to the city. Because of its location near two major financial centers it has become home to some large companies, such as Nestle and the International House of Pancakes. In 1994 DreamWorks, created by Jeff Katzenberg, David Geffen, and Steven Spielberg was founded in Glendale. The studio has become very popular and has partnered with studios like Disney to produce some large budget films. The Glendale Galleria is a famous shopping center that people come to from all around to shop at. It is home to famous stores such as Nordstrom, Target, Macy's, and JC Penney.

There are no major commercial airports in Glendale, but the surrounding area is full of them, such as Los Angeles International, Burbank, Long Beach, Orange County, and Ontario Airports.
