As more British and Americans moved to the area the name was officially changed to Green Bay. In the 1860’s railroads were built to Green Bay which made it possible for the goods in the city to be shipped all over the region. It also made it easier for people to travel to Green Bay. The area quickly became one of the leading meatpacking cities in the United States. Today Green Bay still maintains much of that economic heritage.

Green Bay has a humid continental climate, which means warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August. Snowfall can be severe during the winter months from time to time.

The city of Green Bay is most well known for its professional football team, the Green Bay Packers. The Packers take their name from the city’s history as a meatpacking city. The team won the Super Bowl as recently as 2011.
