Hampton is a city that is located in the extreme eastern portion of the state of Virginia. It is a part of the greater Hampton Roads metropolitan area. The area around Hampton is one of the oldest permanently settles areas in the country. It can trace its beginnings back to the year 1610. The city was settles on the Hampton River, which is where the city got its name. It was burned during both the War for Independence and the US Civil War. The Virginia Air and Space Center is a museum and educational facility that doubles as the visitor's center for NASA's Langley Research Center. The museum contains several aircraft on the ground level of the museum and also suspended from the ceiling by cables. Some aircraft that can be found at the museum include a DC-9, an F-4 Phantom, an F-18, an F-84, and a UH-1M Iroquois helicopter.

St. John's Church is located in downtown Hampton and is the oldest English speaking church in the United States. It is an excellent example of colonial architecture.
