Miramar is a city that is located in the extreme southeastern portion of the US state of Florida. It is in Broward County and is a part of the greater South Florida metropolitan area. The area was named in honor of the Miramar district of Havana, Cuba. "Miramar" means "view of the sea" in Spanish, loosely translated. Many of the residents of Miramar are of Cuban descent, hence the name of the city. Miramar is bordered to the north by Pembroke Pines, to the south by Miami, to the east by West Park, and to the northeast by Hollywood. English is the official spoken and written language of Miramar; however a large percentage of the population speaks Spanish as well.

Miramar has a humid subtropical climate, which means hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures can reach into the 90's Fahrenheit from time to time but winter temperatures rarely dip below 40. Rainfall occurs year round, but it occurs most heavily during the summer months of June through August. The area is vulnerable to hurricanes because of its location in southern Florida.
