Norwalk is a city that is located in the southern region of the US state of California. California is located on the western Pacific coast of the United States. It is the largest state in the country by population. Norwalk is located in Los Angeles County and is a suburb of Los Angeles. It is approximately 17 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. English is the primary spoken and written language of Norwalk, although a growing percentage of the population speaks Spanish as well.

The area was settled in the late 18th century by Spanish explorers. After the US acquired California from Mexico in the Mexican-American War the area was put up for sale to private investors and several people purchased property nearby and began to cultivate large farms and orchards. The area was originally called the "North Walk" because of its location on the northern leg of the Anaheim Branch Railroad. In 1874 the name was shortened to Norwalk. Today the city is a bedroom community for Los Angeles to the north and Orange County to the south. Interstate 5 passes through the city and provides easy access to the larger cities nearby.

Norwalk has a Mediterranean climate which means mild temperatures year round. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 70's or 80's Fahrenheit while winter temperatures rarely dip below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer is the dry season with scarce rain. Most of the areas rainfall occurs during the months of January through March.
