Palmdale is a city that is located in the high desert region of southern California. It is the eighth largest city in Los Angeles County and one of the fastest growing cities in America. It is located approximately 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles in the Antelope Valley. It is bordered by the San Gabriel Mountains to the south and the Tehachapi Mountain Range to the north.

Palmdale was originally a refueling depot along the Southern Pacific Railroad between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The city grew when gold and borax were discovered nearby in 1890. The city continued to grow moderately until 1933 when the US Army Air Corps built Edwards Air Force Base nearby and began building and testing aircrafts and weapons there. This led to a boost in the population and income stream for Palmdale. The aerospace industry is one of the most important industries in the city today, with companies like Boeing, Lockheed, and Northrop Grumman moving to Lancaster to be closer to the Air Force base. The city was finally incorporated in 1977 and separated itself from neighboring Palmdale.

Palmdale has a semi-arid climate, which means hot, dry summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures generally average around 95 degrees Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Rainfall is scarce in Palmdale but most of the regions precipitation comes in the months of January through March.

The city's location near the southern California Mountains makes for easy access to skiing and snowboarding venues in the winter months.

The city is also home to several institutions of higher learning, such as DeVry University, Antelope Valley College, University of Phoenix, and Chapman University.

There are several large airports in the southern California area. Palmdale is within driving distance of Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Orange County John Wayne International, Burbank, and Long Beach Airports. The LA/Palmdale Regional Airport is nearby but it does not service any commercial airlines.
