Port St. Lucie is a city that is located on the southeastern coast of the state of Florida. It is a very young city, having been incorporated recently in 1961. Originally the land where the city now is was simply uninhabited land south of White City. There were a few farms, fisheries, and businesses but nothing else. Then in 1959 the first bridge over the St. Lucie River was opened which allowed direct automobile access to Port St. Lucie and people began to move there. The town began to attract residents with its small town charm. It billed itself as a modern town with a "town you grew up in" feel. The housing market fell on hard times in the early 21st century but the city has plans to bring several medical facilities to the area to increase the number of available jobs.

Port St. Lucie has a humid subtropical climate, which means hot, humid summers and warm, wet winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 90's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures generally stay above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of the area's substantial annual rainfall comes in the months of May through August.

Although there are no professional sports teams in the city, there are a few facilities for spring training for professional baseball teams. The warm spring weather in Florida is perfect for baseball training. The New York Mets have a training facility here. There are several golf courses in the city as well, and the town hosted its first major PGA tournament event in 2007.
