Richmond is a city that is located in the northern coastal region of the US state of California. California is located on the western Pacific coast of the US and is the largest state by population. The city was incorporated in the early 20th century and soon became famous for its wineries. At one point the city had the largest winery in the world. The city experienced an influx of immigrants from Asia during and after World War 2. The Richmond Shipyards were some of the busiest on the west coast of the United States during the war. Today the city still maintains its shipyards and several other major industrial centers. It is also considered a bedroom community for San Francisco.

Richmond has a Mediterranean climate which means mild temperatures year round. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 70's or 80's Fahrenheit while winter temperatures rarely dip below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer is the dry season with scarce rain. Most of the areas rainfall occurs during the months of January through March.
