The summer months are especially dry. Recently it has been determined that Riverside has one of the highest air pollution rates of any city in California. Steps have been taken by local authorities to minimize the amount of toxins put out by cars and factories alike.

There are several recognizable landmarks in Riverside. The most notable of which is the Mission Inn. Other landmarks include the Riverside County Historic Courthouse and the Riverside Fox Theater, which is where the first showing of Gone With the Wind took place in 1939. Riverside has benefited from being the home of the University of California at Riverside. UCR brings much needed revenue to the surrounding economy. The UCR Botanical Gardens are quite popular with naturists and hikers alike. The city also has the distinction of being the home of the three surviving Parent Navel Orange Trees, which are the three trees that all California navel oranges descended from. Much of California's citrus history can trace its roots back to Riverside.
