Round Rock is a city that is located in the south-central region of the US state of Texas. The area was settled in 1851 on the banks of Brushy Creek. The town was originally named after the creek, but in 1854 the name was changed to Round Rock because of the famous geographical phenomenon nearby. Round Rock was located on the Chisholm Trail, which was blazed by Jesse Chisholm in the 19th century. The surrounding area proved to be very fertile and was used to grow cotton. The railroads to Round Rock carried its cotton around the country. This brought workers, revenue, and residents to the city. Today it is a suburban bedroom community for neighboring Austin. There are a few businesses that have moved to Round Rock, but for the most part the city maintains its identity as a suburb of Austin.

Round Rock has a humid continental climate, which means warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August. The city is subject to occasional thunderstorms in the summer time.
