Simi Valley is a city that is located in the southern portion of the US state of California. It is in Ventura County on the border of the San Fernando Valley, approximately 40 miles to the northwest of the city of Los Angeles. The area was once known as Rancho Simi and was a land grant to Mexico from the Spanish government. Eventually, when the US gained California as a territory, the name was changed to Simi Valley because of its location in between mountain ranges. It was incorporated in 1969 and has grown rapidly since then. The city is famous for having one of the lowest crime rates of any city in the United States. This is due in part to the fact that many retired California police and fire department employees move to Simi Valley and live there.

Simi Valley has a Mediterranean climate which means mild temperatures year round. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 70's or 80's Fahrenheit while winter temperatures rarely dip below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer is the dry season with scarce rain. Most of the areas rainfall occurs during the months of January through March.

Simi Valley is the home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The former president owned land in Simi Valley when he was governor of the state of California. Today the library houses his collection of books as well as memorabilia from his life. It is also home to the Air Force One plane that was his during his presidency as well as a piece of the Berlin Wall, which he was instrumental in tearing down.

The closest major airport to Simi Valley is Los Angeles International Airport. Burbank Airport is within driving distance, as are Ontario International Airport and John Wayne Orange County International Airport.
