Overview
Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment training permit that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students (belongs to STEM degree) can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization for pre-completion or post-completion. However, all periods of pre-completion Optional Practical Training will be deducted from the available period of post-completion Optional Practical Training.
Types of OPT
OPT Student Health Insurance
Students who completed or still perusing needs to have health insurance because they are not allowed to get benefits with his/her school health insurance; they are not in school anymore. Moreover, they are not permanent employees also so the employer will also not going to provide you international health insurance. Completing school/college you may need to have a part-time job to gain some knowledge in your field. U.S government provides you 12 months in the U.S without any other visa. For that period, you must need a health insurance cover for yourself.
People who travel a lot have so many questions regarding visa or permit to live in the U.S. There are several types’ of visas for the travelers depend on the particular reason.
For example:
If you are traveling to the U.S for any conference you may have your business visa, and if you are traveling to the U.S for further studies then you may have F1 & F2 visa. Like all other visas, U.S doesn’t have any visa for training purposes, but the U.S provides an OPT (Optional Practical Training) for those students who want to gain some knowledge.
OPT (Optional Practical Training) After completing school/college, your medical insurance will stop working because you bought that for studies only.

Considering that you are not a full-time employee or not a student also, so you are not allowed to continue getting benefits of student visa insurance and as not being a full-time employee, not any company will give international health insurance. So we only have simple advice to those fellow travelers who are planning to stay in the U.S with OPT, please buy an OPT student health insurance as soon as possible along with these benefits
